Wow! Do we have some exciting patterns for May for our afghan Block-of-the-Month community knitting project!

May “easy” pattern:  Darning Pattern

Source: 1500 Patterns, No. OJ 87, Mon Tricot Collection

Materials: 4 ply Worsted Acrylic Yarn

Needles: Size US 8 (5.0 mm)

Gauge: 20 st over 4 in/10cm

Note: When slipping stitches, do it as if to purl.

Cast on 40 sts.

Row 1 and 3 (RS): *K2, wyf, sl 2, wyb*

Row 2 and alt rows (WS): P

Row 5: K

Row 7 and 9: *wyf, sl 2, wyb, K2*

Row 11: K

Repeat rows 1-12 four more times for a total of 5 repeats. Weave in yarn tails and block if needed.

 

May “challenging” pattern:  Little Buds

Materials: Sensations Simple Elegance, Celebration color #38 worsted weight yarn

Needles: Size US 8 (5.0 mm)

Gauge: 16 sts over 4 in/10 cm over stockinette stitch

 

Cast on 34 sts. Knit one row.

Row 1: K1, *k1, YO four times, K1, p6; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 2: K1, *k6, p1, ptbl four times, p1; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 3: K1, *k6, p6; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 4: K1, *k6, p2tog, ;2, p2togtbl; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 5: K1, k4, p6; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 6: K1, *k6, p2tog, p2togtbl; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 7: K1, *k2, p6; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 8: K1, *k2, p1, YO four times, p1, k4; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 9: K1, *p4, k1, ktbl four times, k1, p2; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 10: K1, *k2, p6, k4; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 11: K1, *p4, k2togtbl, k2, k2tog, p2; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 12: K1, *k2, p4, k4; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 13: K1, *p4, k2togtbl, k2tog, p2; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Row 14: K1, *k2, p2, k6; repeat from * to last st ending k1

Repeat these 14 rows three times and then repeat rows 1-7 once more. Knit one row. Bind off, block if needed and weave in yarn tails.
